Wonderful Synergy between Westlake Village Animal Hospital and The Barkley Pet Hotel and Day Spa.

Having designed Westlake Village Animal Hospital next to the Barkley Pet Hotel and Day Spa was a stroke of genius by the designer, creator and administrator of these facilities, namely, Stan Slaton. The fruits of his vision will be steadily unfolding for many years to come. The resulting synergy is continuous. It is convenient for our clientele and beneficial to our furry friends, our pet owners, our staff and our veterinary doctors. It is indeed a win-win situation.

Wednesday was a good test for the workings of this synergistic relationship between WVAH and The BarkleyLA. Throughout the whole day of Wednesday November 24th, The Barkley was checking-in a good number of pets for Thanksgiving weekend. I was one of the runners, taking pets to their temporary holiday home after placing a customized yellow collar -- each collar indicating the name of the dog (in this case) and the suite where he/she was to stay. During that detailed check-in process, I had to go to the Hospital side on numerous occasions, to fill-in a prescription, to order a missing vaccination or simply to pose a question to our knowledgeable veterinary doctors, giving our clients peace of mind in terms of their pet/s and their stay at the BarkleyLA. As we all know, peace of mind is priceless!!

A case in  point is Bambi Smith. Bambi is a beautiful  golden retriever who suffers from arthritis in her hips and hind legs. She was almost checked-in when Mrs Smith mentioned her arthritis and Bambi's inability to walk with ease, additionally she mentioned a medication she wished she had for her pet. No sooner said, I offered to investigate the situation, especially since Bambi was already a patient of Dr.Slaton. Julie, our wonderful receptionist informed us that before completing Bambi's check-in, the medication, if prescribed,  had to be in her hands and on file with all the complete instructions for administering it. Therefore I rushed to WVAH. Our hard-working Chandra, looked up Bambi's file and confirmed that the dog had been previously on Rimadyl for arthritis, then I went to Dr.Slaton who recalled Bambi's situation. Dr.Slaton elected to prescribe Rimadyl to ease her arthritis. A few minutes later the medication was in my hands and Bambi was fully checked-in at the BarkleyLA.

Had the hospital not been so close, this problem may have taken days to resolve to every one's satisfaction including Bambi's. This synergy between Westlake Village Animal Hospital and the Barkley Pet Hotel and Day Spa is here to stay to the benefit of all.
